Liechtenstein FMA grants Europes first MIFID II license for Blockchain based Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF) to Nomisma (Liechtenstein) AG

On 9 April 2020 the Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority granted Nomisma (Liechtenstein) AG the conditional license for operating  a Multilateral Trading Facility license (MTF).

The license granted to Nomisma is not only the first license for an MTF in Liechtenstein. It is also the first license in Europe for an MTF with a core blockchain based settlement mechanism, which will allow for trading of any financial instrument in tokenized form, including cryptocurrency derivatives.

Nomisma’s team is comprised, uniquely, of experienced financial industry professionals, academics and experienced blockchain technology leaders, whose ambition is to launch an exchange platform as an important step towards building an ecosystem of issuance and trading of tokenized financial instruments. Further, Nomisma has developed a proprietary Derivatives Matching Engine with novel liquidity bootstrapping features alongside an associated ‘trustless’ architecture.

“In being awarded this conditional license Nomisma has set a major milestone towards starting a new era of trading with tokenized assets. We are grateful for all the support we received from our advisors in Liechtenstein. we count on their continuing expert advice to deliver on the commitments we have undertaken towards the Liechtenstein FMA” said Dimitrios Kavvathas, Nomisma’s CEO, Executive Chairman and co-Founder.

We are honoured and pleased that our firm was retained by Nomisma in this pioneering project and guided Nomisma to successfully obtain this unique license.

We thank the entire Team of Nomisma for the excellent cooperation and are looking forward to further support them.

Nomisma will now prepare to start operations of the Nomisma MTF with its headquarters in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
